The passage discusses three pieces of evidence found in a fossil of T.Rex fossil, which could probably indicate the remaining of soft tissues of the animal. However, the professor is dubious about these new findings authenticity and provides different reasons to refute the author's claims.
First, the author states that the soft and flexible organic matter which was detected in branching channels inside the fossil bones might be associated with the remaining of the animal's blood vessels. The professor, however, opposes this idea by referring to the bacterial activity as a possible source of the organic substance. According to the professor, after the animal is dead, some bacterias might colonize in the hollow channels inside the bones. These bacteria usually leave traces of organic material behind, and the detected organic matter in the fossils is probably from this source rather than animal's blood vessels.
Second, the passage notes that spherical cells, which contain iron might be the remains of the T.rex's blood cells. The professor opposes this idea as well. As the professor mentions, these identical spherical cells have been detected in the fossils of the primitive organisms which lack blood cells. Therefore, these cells could not be blood cells and might have a different origin, such as the residues of a kind of reddish mineral substance.
Finally, according to the passage, collagen, which is the primary element of the living bone tissues, has been detected in the analysis of the fossils. However, the professor states that due to the short life of collagen, it is very unlikely that this material has been preserved for such a long period of time. Thus, he suggests that the collagen might be transferred to the fossil from the human's skin once a researcher, for instance, has touched the sample.
