First of all, the article states that salvage logging helps to clean the forest from dead tress which gives the chance for new trees to grow more quickly. The speaker, on the other hand, rebuts this claim by explaining that removing the remains of the trees is not an effective way. She added that actually the dead plants or trees helps to enrich the soil and make it more fertilized which enhances the chances of regrowing of the trees more rapidly.
Second, the author of the reading mentions that removing the remains of the dead trees prevents some harmful insects as the spruce bark beetle from infestation. The professor challenges this claim and she elaborates that these beetles have existed for years and never caused any harm to the forest. Moreover, other beneficial insects and birds flourish on the remains of the remains of the dead trees.
Third, the text is of the opinion that this process provides employment for number of people who will likely to be local people which is economic value for both the residents and the companies. The speaker goes against this claim as well. He points out that these jobs are temporary which will not lead to a real economic benefit on the long run.
