The table below shows statistics about the top five countries for international tourism in
2012 and 2013.
The table compares the top five countries regarding the numbers of visitors and the money spent by those visitors in the years 2012 and 2013.
It is clear that France was the most popular tourist attraction over the period shown. In contrast, the US earned by far the most revenue from tourism.
In 2012, 83 million tourists traveled to France, and the US was the second most visited country, with 66.7 million tourists. There were under 58 million visitors coming to Spain and China, compared to only 46.4 million tourists visiting Italy. While China received 2 million fewer visitors than in the previous year, the other countries experienced a slight increase of from 1 to 4 million tourists in 2013.
The amount of money spent by tourists who visited the USA rose from $126.2 billion in 2012 to $ 139.6 billion in 2013 and this figure was twice as high as those for the others. Spain got the second highest amount of tourist income, increasing from $56.3 billion to $60.4 billion, followed by France, China and Italy. Although the number of tourists fell significantly in 2013, Chinese revenue from tourism rose by 1.7 billion.
