The chart compares the quantities of CO2 emissions per capita in four different nations during 1967 and 2007.
It is clear that the UK people by far produced the highest amount of CO2. In addition, while the amounts of CO2 emissions in the UK and Sweden decreased during the research period, the figures for Portugal and Italy gradually went up.
In 1967, almost 11 metric tonnes of CO2 were produced by people living in the UK, followed by Sweden individuals, at nearly 9 metric tonnes. While Portugese only emitted 1 metric tonnes of CO2, Italian produced four times more, at around 4 metric tonnes. During 1977, there was a dramatic rise in the amount of CO2 emissions in Sweden, to more than 10 metric tonnes per person. By contrast, England's figure had a slight decline to the same level as Sweden.
In 2007, while the amount of CO2 emissions in Sweden decreased to only 5 metric tonnes, the number of CO2 emitted by Italian rose to nearly 8 metric tonnes and became the second highest figure in the graph. Meanwhile, England remained the country with highest amount of CO2 emissions per capita, at 9 metric tonnes, compared to 5 metric tonnes of CO2 emitted by Italian.
