The bar chart illustrates the percentages of high school boys and girls who succeeded in their competency examination, by subject from 2010 to 2011.
Overall, a large proportion of students were successful in computer science, mathematics and foreign languages including French, German and Spanish. While the percentage of male and female students passing mathematics, physics and foreign languages was quite the same, the other subjects saw a significant difference in the number of successful examinees.
It is obvious that the girls gained more good results than the boys in most subjects, especially in computer science where the girls achieved the best performance and the pass rate of the girls was over 14% higher than that of the boys. The rate was even considerably different in chemistry by gender when the girls occupied 30.2%, just over 16% higher than the boys did.
However, both girls and boys were not as well-performed in physics, chemistry, history and geography as in the other subjects. Additionally, in terms of geography there were more boys managing the exams than girls, with the pass rate of 30.4% and 20.1% respectively.
