BEE NEST
The reading and the lecture both discuss whether the nest inside the tree have created by bees or not. The reading says that the structures, which have discovered in Arizona, it is not relating to the Bees. However, the professor refutes this argument and states that there are several reasons that Bees have been about 200 million years ago.
First, there are no fossils of actual Bees. According to the reading, the first fossils of bees return to 100 million years ago and it is not accepted that bee have live 200 million years ago. In contrast, the lecturer refutes this statement by saying the trees which have been at that time could not produce resin, then bees fossils could not remain since that time.
In addition, no existing flowering plants 200 million years ago. The passage claims that bees and flowering plants have a special relationship and in fact the bees use these plants as food, while the first flowering plants have existed from 125 million years ago. However, the professor states that although the bees and flowering plants have close relationship, bees at that time have used other plants as food. Indeed, the consumers of flowering plans by bees have been starting since the evolutionary plant age.
Finally, the discovered nests have a similarity with modern bee nests, but they are different in details. The reading says that for instance chambers of modern bee nest have another pattern relative to the fossil structure. On the other hand, the speaker argues that by analyzing the fossil, the experts have found they are the same even in details. For example, both modern and old nest are water proof.
