The diagrams below show illustrate the sequences of life stages undergone by a large species of the fish called salmon.
Salmon tend to lay eggs among small stones covered by a aquatic plants called reeds in the upper river where water flows slowly. These eggs remain there for there for five to six months until they are prepared to hatch and little fishes known as “fry” come out of them. The length of these small fishes is approximately three to eight centimeters. Then they swim toward lower river where they will stay there for almost four years. At this part of the river has a wild stream and moves very fast.
As long as fishes grow enough and reach to twelve to fifteen centimeters, they migrate toward open sea. At this stage, they called “smolt”.
During 5 years in the open sea, they gradually transition into new period of their life, the adult salmon. They are at this stage measure seventy to seventy six centimeters. Finally, when the time of spawning comes, then they again turn back to the their place of birth and lay eggs.
In conclusion, it is distinctively manifest that it took about ten years since a little fish change to an adult one by encountering various places.
