robustus
According to the reading, a recently discovered fossil of a mammal known as robustus with a dinosaur called psittacocosaur in its stomach, does not indicates that robustus actively haunted the psittacocosaur. The lecturer casts doubts on the reasons mentioned in the reading.
Firstly, the reading states that since robustus was much smaller than a psittacocosaur, it couldn’t be the predator of this kind of dinosaur. The lecturer refutes this argument by saying that robustus is twice the size of a baby psittacocosaur, so it is possible that the robustus hunted a baby psittacocosaur.
Secondly, the reading claims that robustus’s legs are positioned to the side and that they are noticeably short, so it was not able to chase after fast-moving animals like psittacocosaurs. On the contrary, the lecturer mentions that a modern day mammal named Tasmanian Devil has the same leg features as robustus, but it can run fast enough to be an active and successful predator. He concludes that robustus could have actively haunted his prey just like Tasmanian Devils do now.
Last but not least, the reading posits that because there are no teeth marks on its body, the psittacocosaur inside this robustus could not be actively haunted and that maybe robustus swallowed an unattended psittacocosaur egg. In contrast, the lecturer asserts that since robustus used to swallow their prey in whole or in big pieces of meat, this is not a valid reason. In other words, the robustus could have swallowed a baby psittacocosaur whole. Also, the lack of teeth marks is due to the fact that robustus had no mark on its back teeth, which were probably not used for chewing.
