In term of whether there were many disadvantages of "let it burn" policy in Yelooestone. The reading and lecture both contradictory to each other.
First, the reading states that a huge number of trees and vegetation had been destroied due to this fire. On the other hand, the professor refutes this notion by saying that even though some vegetation had been scorched, many vegetation colonised by new palnts and that gave a new opportunity to other palnts to grow. So, the diverisity of tha plants in Yellowstone had been increased. Moreover, the trees destroied but, other plants in the open heated area had been grown. Furthermore, many plants started to germinate in the high level of heat after the fire.
Second, contrary to the belief in the reading passage that there was a negative effect of this fire on the wildlife. the professor argues by saying that this fire would able to create new opportunity and new habitat to the small animals like rabbit and hares because many preditors came to live in the same area. So, they found a good source of food and benifites.
Finally, the article avers that the local economy had been affected because many tourists stoped to visit the Yellowstone. However, the professor questions this idea by pointing out the yellowstone fire caused by low rainfull and strong wind. Furthermore, the Yellowstone did not see fire anymore. As a result, the visitors started to come each year after that. This is directly contradicted what is the passage indicated.
