With any decision we make,it is always better to have a plethora of solutions available. It lets us choose the best and most efficient way possible to solve a problem. Consultants are hired to just provide suggestions, it is not compulsory that they need to implemented; they bring in an alternative view which is backed by their experience. Therefore, if the company can spend money, then it is better if consultants are hired so that they can have an alternative outlook as to how to solve the problem.
Consultants often have a wealth of experience and have a deep understanding of their field. Although there suggestions might not always be the best, these suggestions do provide greater insight to a problem which would not have been apparent for someone working in the company. These consultants work for a short period of time and often provide more value for money than hiring a full-time employee to oversee operations.
Additionally, it might also be the case that there might not be anyone working in the company who is skilled enough to guide the company. For example, if a private technology company wants to go public, it is often sagacious to hire consultants who have done this countless times before than to rely on a group of employees who do not have experience; it might end up as a disaster of the inexperienced employees are left in charge.
Although the consultants provide an alternative outlook, they do not as clear of an understanding of how the company works from the inside than the employees of that company; they only provide the viewpoint of an outsider. Therefore, their suggestions might always be the best. However, if they work together with the employees within the company, then the results can be astounding.
It is often prudent to hire consultants as they provide better insight. However, these suggestions only need to taken under consideration; by combining these suggestions with the suggestions from their own employees a more efficient solutions can be found.
