The article states that the fossil information of Agnostids which were a group of marine animals did not give the paleontologists enough information to help them to determine what did Agnostids eat of how they behave and provides three theories about how these creatures may have lived. However, the professoe explains that each of these theories has weveral weaknesses and refutes each of the theories.
First, the reading claims that Agnostids were free-swimming predators. The professor opposes this point by saying that predators need large well-developed eyes. According to the professor, the predators need good vision to help them to follow a pray. He puts forth that these marines had a small eyes or they may have been comepletely blind. In order to be able to follow their pray they need to have some sensing organism to help them but the fossil records did not shoe anything.
Second, the author declares that Agnostids may have dwelled on the seafloor. Nevertheless, the professor contends that seafloor creatures did not have the ability to move fast or far and they move very slow on the ocean floor. He states that seefloor marines stay localized and occupy in small geographical areas. But the fossil records show that Agnostids found in multiple areas and they were spread in large areas of the ocean so these creatures could move fast which is unusual for seafloor creatures.
Third, the article avers that Agnostids were parasites. The professor refutes this point by stating that the population of the parasites are not large. He put forth that parasites stay in small areas and the number of them is limited. Based on the lecture, if the population of these animals increases they would kill off the host organism where they live. Nonetheless, there are vast amount of Agnostids fossils that is found. Thus, it is not possible for this creatures to be parasites.
