Although the author argues three main hypotheses to support the fact that Robert E.Peary, a well-known astronomer, reached the North Pole in 1909, the professor finds them dubious and brings up three reasons to refute them all.
Firstly, the author holds the view that by using investigation of Peary's record conducted by the National Geographic Society committee, they found this claim plausible. However, the professor gainsays this idea and states while it is true that the National Geographic Society declare this true, but it is not completely accepted due to the fact that one of the close friends' of Peary had funded for this expedition and they show that it was 2 days expedition and the records are not carefully obtained.
Secondly, the author argues that although at first it was unbelivable, by camparing the speed of Tom Avery with the speed of Peary's claim, it was true enough to make sure this claim is true. In contrast, the professor asserts that Tom Averywas feeded by aor plan and it was different with Peary's. Moreover, the Tom Avery was so in favor with weather condition while the Peary's was sensitive.
Eeventualy, the reading material states that the photofraphs taken by Peary and measuring the shadow which leads tho calculate the Sun's posotion is a good evidence. On the other hand, the speaker believes that photographs are not adequate to measuring the shadow precisely. They might have been taken by primitive cameras and worn and blured by time.
