Although the author argues three methods to solve the problems of either declining or extinction of frog species in recent years, the professor finds them dubious and brings up three counter reasons to refute them all.
First, the author believes that farmers should be prevented from utilizing pesticides and chemical materials for farmlands since they endanger the frog populations. However, the professor gainsays this idea and states that prohibiting farmers from spreading pesticides is not economically advantageous. Government should not enact such restrict laws by which farmers are not able to remain in competitive markets and this leads them decline in growing crops and decreasing the yield.
Second, the author holds the view that some antifungal treatments and medication should be applied in order to prevent infection on frogs since fungus cause them to be dehydrated. The professor, on the other hand, asserts that there would be two problems with this treatment. Firstly, scientists should trace and capture each frogs and then apply this treatment for them which is not doable. In addition, they should figure out how to prevent this effect for offspring and next generations. Both of aforementioned problems are so sophisticated and costly.
Third, the author explains that by preserving frogs' habitat such as wetlands and lakes and stop draining water from these water sources by humans, they are more likely to be protected. In contrast, the professor claims that losing excessive amount of water is not due to the human activities. It is a global problem and affect the entire species which should be considered in large scale.
