The article states that zebra mussels migrated from Eastern Europe to North America, and they became a threat for freshwater fishes population over there. The passage provides three reasons to support its statement. The professor explains that they cannot be considered as a threat anymore and refuses each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading claims that zebra mussels spread by ships that move from Europe to America. It mentions that they stick to the bottom of ships or in ballast water of ships. Their professor opposes this point by saying that zebra mussels cannot survive in ocean water, so ships can use is as their ballast water to prevent the spreading of zebra mussels.
Second, the passage states that zebra mussels do not have any predators and they dominate their habitats. In contrast, the professor says that it does not take a long time for birds to find out that there are new foods in their habitats, and birds can eat a lot of them, so zebra mussels can be dominated.
Third, the article mentions that zebra mussels reduce the population of fishes by eating water planktons. The professor says that they may eat Planktons but they are beneficial somehow by producing Nutrients that can be eaten by fishes.
