According to the given set of the reading passage, it is author's conviction that little ice age happened because of several possible reasons, which are mentioned in the text. On the contrary, the lecturer repudiates all of the author's justification for the appearance of the ice age by providing some counter-argument reasons that are as follows:
First of all, the reading holds the view that, fluctuation of Gulf stream, which has a significant influence on the climate, is responsible for the emergence of little ice age. However, the lecturer finds this reason unconvincing by asserting that new information rejects this claim because of the fact that the most and prominent effect of Gulf Stream is in the Europe and the North America, But the little ice age occurred in sudden areas such as Africa and even News land and thus, the Gulf stream current cannot explain this phenomenon.
Secondly, although the author posits that produced dust and sulfur gas by volcanic eruptions can be another reason for this event, the lecturer says that even though these volcanic eruptions occurred at that period, but there is not any report of very powerful and striking visual effects. In other words, these eruptions were not strong enough to diminish the global temperature by preparing an obstacle to sunlight.
As the last point to emphasize the reading claim, the author believes that the abundance of forests and as a result, the reduction of Carbon Dioxide is the last reason for the occurrence of little ice age. Yet again, the lecturer states on the opposite side and contradicts that it has not been sufficient time to happening of this phenomena. By increasing population quickly, the forests cut again in order to flourish crops and food. Consequently, it was not long enough to cool climate.
