The reading passage discusses an interesting topic about a paint of a woman that is suposed to pertain to Rembrandt, but the reading passage cast doubts on the real author of the masterpiece providing three main reasons for support. However, the lecture reinforces the idea that the paint actually belongs to Rembrandt and opposed to each of the reasons of the reading passage.
First, the reading passage sustains that a main error that determinate is not a Rembrandt are in the clothes wore by the woman: the hat is not compatible with an aristocratic person. Rembrandt would never had missed that detail. On the other hand, the lecture explains that the mistake was not made by Rembrandt, but by other artist, a century later, when pretending to give an aristocratic touch to the woman, add the collar on the dress.
Secondly, the reading passage establishes that the illumiation of the paint presents basic errors. In contradiction, the lecture remarks that the collar added on later time is the culprit of that error. Once the collar was removed from the paint, there was not illumination mistake.
Finally, the lecture refutes the reading passage about the wood panel. An addition done years later to the panel gave the reading passage the wrong idea about its origin. The panel was the original one, but with the purpose to enlarge it by later owners, another frame was added.
