The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
The two pie charts illustrate the consumption of energy and the amount of the greenhouse gas emission in an average Australian households correspondingly.
Overall, it can be seen that heating remains the number one energy among the Australian households, whereas the greater proportion of emissions is caused by water heating. Another striking feature is that in both categories (energy and emission), cooling constitutes the least net.
In terms of energy use, heating stands at just over two-fifths (42%) of the total, compared to water heating at approximately one-third (30%). These two are followed by 'other appliances' at 15%, twice as many as refrigeration at 7%. Lighting and cooling are less used at 4% and 2% respectively.
In contrast, despite being the number two energy, it contributes most regarding the generation of the greenhouse gas at 32%, slightly higher than 'other appliances' at 28%. Next comes heating at 15%, which is almost close to refrigeration at 14%. Cooling is the lowest producer of the given noxious gas at 3%, nowhere near as close as lighting at 8%.
