Modern societies need specialists in certain fields, but not in others. Some people therefore think that government should pay university fees for students who study subjects that are needed by society; those who choose to study less relevant subjects should not receive government funding. Would the advantages of such an educational policy outweigh the disadvantages?
Undoubtedly, in last few decades, governments' financial help has encouraged a lot of students to choose their favourite stream. What if governments sponsor only those students who study the subjects which are in demand by latest societies? I think, the impact of this would be more negative than positive.
First of all, such policy may create a major one sided rule in society by government. As we all know, government is for whole society and it should not support partially. For an instance, government help to students, who decide to study the subjects required by current society in certain fields then who will be sponsoring to other specialists? It is not that, society does not need specialist in other occupations.Of-course, society needs specialist in all field but in few fields they may require more talented and more knowledgeable people. However, to get such talent, government can always sponsor a specialist or an extra ordinary student in each field instead giving such facility to only few students. It will be beneficial to the society rather that just a few people.
Moreover, the students who will not get financial help by government just because of their subjects, may get discouraged and the worst, they may leave their education in-between eventhough they will be master in their field. Especially country like India where it took sixty years to understand the importance of education and still many areas are unaware about it. In such situation, if government stops their helping hands towards students who has not relevant subjects which is in demand, then definately the major part of students may change their mind towards further education. As a consequence, India may face same problems as century ago.
On the other hand, there is an advantage of such rule which can not be denied. As the occupation is already in demand by society, sponsoring such students by government, may never see unemployment issue, which is again a major global issue. This can be solved by increasing the unemployment rate in perticular filed, at-least.
In a summary, evnthough society may see the decline in unemployment, governments should continue to balance financial help within different students and should try their best to encourage more students to join the subjects which they personaly likes rather modern society required.
