The reading claims that frog species have reduced in recent years. It provides some solutions to solve the problem of declining frog's population. However, the lecture finds all the ideas dubious and provides some evidence to refute them all.
First, the reader states that pesticides are harmful for frogs. This chemical attacks nervous system of frogs and may cause breathing problems. Hence, prohibiting farmers from using detrimental materials is one way to reduce this extinction. On Contrast, the lecturer said that reducing the use of pesticides are not economical. There are competiters in those areas. It is needed to strict regulation and requires another area.
Secondly, the reading alleges that fungus causes thickening of frog's skin. Since frogs absorb water by their skin, this will cause dehydration. Antifungal medication which kill the fungus with heat can help in preventing the frog's die out. On the contrary, the lecture argues that there are some problem with this treatment. One of them is that the treatment should be applied on each frog. In other word, it is individual and requires capturing each frog. Moreover, they cannot control offspring and this treatment should be repeated again and again. It is so expensive and time consuming.
Finally, the reading passage asserts that threating of natural habitats of frogs is another reason of their extinction. If the lakes and marshes will be protected from excessive water, this problem would be solved. Conversely, the speaker states that this issue is not a big problem. the biggest problem is global warming. Protecting water would not help saving frogs. Global warming is the main reason of frog's extinction.
