In the lecture, the professor states several points about a lady portrait painting done by the famous dutch painter Rembrandt. He argues that the work was created by the painter himself and not by anybody else so should not be removed from the official catalogue. However the author of the passage contends that the style and demonstration does not represent the work by Rembrandt. The professor's lecture cast doubt on the reading by several points.
Firstly, the professor claims that on x ray analyses it was found that the cap which resembles to a servant model was painted 100 years later by somebody. Accordingly the original work by rembrandt was being used by somebody else and they added the cap to the original aristocratic lady picture. This is not what the reading states, it says that the dressing style is not consistent with the work by the famous painter since he was attentive about this kind of work. The lecture casts doubt on this by blaming the addition by someone else.
Secondly, the face of the portrait shows reflection because of the light colored cloth worn below it.The lecturer claims that originally it was a light fur collar that was been painted below the face. In contrast the reading states that a dark fur collar was painted which should result in shadowed picture rather than a bright face as seen in picture. This point is contradicted by the lecturer that someone else altered the light fur collar to a dark one which was revealed in the x ray analysis.
Finally, the lecturer says that the painting was done on a single piece of wood. Likewise, it was the wood from same tree used by the painter to do his self portrait. But the passage explains that the painting was done using several pieces of wood being glued together. This casts doubt on the lecturer who details that the picture was later enlarged by using panels of wood pieces added on top and sides.
