The Old Quarter - a huge change for the stability
Old Quarter - a large historical area which tourists cannot skip when visiting Hanoi. It had 36 streets which are told in folk poems and tales since thousands years ago. However, the place has become extremely chaos and polluted as the consequences of the population increase and the local government’s irresponsibility. This essay will describe the Old Quarter features, and according to that, the author will also give some recommendations to the city authority which help to solve some issues which it has been confronted.
The Old Quarter is a crucial zone of Hanoi city. It is the heart of the city where contains many complex of ancient buildings and houses. The area is also national political and public administration center of Vietnam. Therefore, it has greatly modern and luxury architecture which are the governmental offices and international hotels, such as, National Convention Center or Hilton hotel. Additionally, crowded streets, cramped roads, and small pavements are one of the stand out characteristics of the Old Quarter, Hang Ma street is a typical example for this.
The Old Quarter is the capital’s center. It has the road system which is closed for walking in the weekend. Indeed, tourists and local people have been attracted to come there for enjoying the “Hanoi’s spirit”. The majority of roads and streets are small and narrow, thus, there is not enough space for pedestrians. Information providing points for tourists and foreigners are a weakness of the Old Quarter. Consequently, finding support tends to be an adversity when travelling around this centered zone. As the result of a city’s poor management on protecting environment and current traffic state, the citizens and visitors have been suffered the dirt and pollution here. The situation even becomes more serious by cause of the increasing of cars in recent years.
To address the issues mentioned, firstly, the government should quickly improve the traffic quality by encouraging the development of public transportation system surrounding the area, such as metro or buses. Moreover, private motorbikes and cars should be prohibited to enter the city center following daily schedule. Secondly, building more new information booths could support tourists and it will promote the tourism service at the Old Quarter. One more thing, to enhance the sightseeing, the government has drastically to prepare for expanding Old Quarter’s pavement. This might not easy to operate, however, government has to satisfy short term benefits to overcome completely these problems.
In conclusion, the Old Quarter are playing a great role in the development of Vietnam’s capital city. It is the reflection of the change of the country. Many cultural, political and economic values of this nation are subsisting in and around this area. Unfortunately, all these wonderful national heritages are in emergency on account of the pollution, traffic jam and lack of space. Accordingly, managing the transportation and private vehicles is necessary to increase air and traffic quality of the place. Furthermore, Hanoi’s city council should consider the ideas which are expanding the pavement systems and providing more support point to help maintain the effectiveness of Hanoi’s tourism. All these solutions will be the key factor to the stability of the national capital.
