Read the two texts below. Write an essay summarising and evaluating the key points from both texts.
Use your own words throughout as far as possible, and include your own ideas in your answers.

The two extracts express contrasting views on the topic of what type of clothing is suitable in different contexts.

The first author claims that formal wear can express detachment between professionals and the people they serve. This type of clothing serves as an immediate signal that the situation will not be casual, and thus, demands a sense of decorum. The author also adds that formal clothing can help express the knowledge and authority of the wearer. Because of this, when we look at people who choose to dress themselves in dress shirts, suits and ties, naturally, we feel assured.

Conversely, the second author believes that casual wear may be more effective in many contexts. They further argue that uniforms impose an air of intimidation and dominance upon their wearers, especially when the wearers have to cooperate with particularly vulnerable demographics, and thus, informal clothes are more suitable. However, this author notes that for some public occasions, such as funerals and weddings, the wearing of formal clothing is deeply intertwined with the occasions themselves. Because of this, any deviation from the formal dress code may be seen as a sign of a lack of respect.

Personally, I agree that professionals should wear formal clothing while carrying out their work. Without exerting a sense of authority from the get-go, the people whom these professionals serve may deem the professionals to be inadequate in their skills. However, for certain lines of work that entails working with traditionally oppressed demographics, like social workers, I recommend that workers in those fields should opt for casual clothing, as formalwear may result in feelings of intimidation and distrust, thus impeding their work.

In conclusion, formal wear should be worn by the majority of professionals at work, and by all participants at certain events. However, people working with maligned demographics should wear more informal clothing instead.
