Governments should not fund any scientific research whose consequences are unclear.
Funding of any field should be based on the type of the field because some fields need funding without which they cannot continue their work. Government should not waste the fiscal revenue on trivial issues. Instead of that they can spend the money for benefit of the poor. Thus government should be well aware of each penny they are spending for the particular purpose. Coming to the point of scientific research I agree that government should not fund any scientific research whose consequences are unclear instead government can ask for the researches some kind of assurance that they are going to succeed in their work. After they providing such assurance government can allot funds for them.
Government has many areas for which funding is very necessary. For instance take the case of primary education and health which needs a great amount of money, government instead of taking care of these basic needs of denizens of a country spending money on things which does’nt fetch any fruit full outputs.so there is a need for the government to think twice before they use the money.
However one cannot see the deep inside of result of scientific work as we are normal beings don’t know much about the scientific studies cannot assess their research progress correctly. So government should ask them for the assurance for the success in their future. They should be able to convince them with lucid explanations of the way of their approach and the time it takes for them to complete the task and all. For instance Edison, who invented electric bulb attempted many times though he is an intelligent person. Sometimes it might take for them some time although their approach is correct. Therefore it should take care and grant funds only for the worthy not on all frivolous things as the government is responsible for more important issues.
