With regard to the amounts of goods transported by road, it began at 70 million tones then after some slight fluctuation peaked at 98 million tones in 1998 and then remain constant until the end of the period. In contrast, just 5 million tones of goods were transported by pipeline in the first year and although it rose to 22 million tons, it remained the least of the list during the period.
Moreover, approximately 40 million tons of goods were transported via water and rail systems in 1974. The figure shows an identical start point of usage for both of them. Water transportation increased and reached a high of 63 million tones after a slight fell in 1998. The amounts of goods transported by rail were declined 4 years after the beginning of the period and bounced back after some fluctuation in 1994.
