Some experts said that children ought to learn a foreign language at primary school. instead when they are at secondary school. It is the idea what they thought to benefit students in schools. From this idea, there are some inflicted points of view arise.
For pupils who have interest and so keen to learn foreign language. It might better for them to pursue it in their very early age. Psychologists argue the importance of having interest as the indicator to offer some subjects to be studied, especially foreign language. Accordingly, nowadays, people start to realize the existence of child prodigy who easy to mastering some languages. For children who have this ability, it more better to teach them foreign language at primary school.
However, it is also important to consider that at primary school, children just in their way to embellish their skill in speaking first language. When we put them in overlapping situation, which is by give them another language to learn. It will affect their fluency and even trouble them with language confused.
Several studies have showed how to teach our children in their very early years. As the matter of fact, children have developing brains. It means they barely understand some things in their surroundings. To respond with this fact, caregivers and teachers should teach children step by step but progressively. Following this idea, it will be more prolific to teach another language after children mastering their native language.
In a nutshell, it is definitely a good idea to teach our kids a foreign language, since it will enable them understand other people with different culture. But, it will be better to put them in foreign language class after they are ready enough physiologically. What is more, mother language should be mastered first in their primary school. As the result, children will gain fluency in their first language, and they are well prepared to understand another language.
