The bar chart portrays the total number of rentals and sales of films of a variety of formats made annually by a particular store from 2002 to 2011.
Based on the chart, one of the most striking features is that the rentals on the films were decreasing over the years. It dropped significantly from 2002 to 2011 in which the annual number of rentals in 2002 and 2011 were 185,000 and 58,000 respectively. Apart from that, the VHS sales were also declining gradually since the year 2002. Its sales was above 80,000 in 2002 and it was surprising to note that by the year 2006, its sales was zero.
As for the DVD sales, the bar chart shows a significant rise from the year 2002 to the year 2007. The number of DVD sales in 2002 and 2007 were around 50,000 and above 210,000 respectively. This shows a four-times increase in term of DVD sales between 2002 and 2007. After experiencing a peak in DVD sales in 2007, the particular store experienced a gradual drop thereafter. This drop was followed by the invention of Blu-ray in 2007 in which the Blu-ray sales began to rise till the year of 2011. According to the chart, the DVD sales in 2011 was above 180,000 while the Blu-ray sales in the same year was below 20,000.
In overall, it is noticeable that the number of rentals on various formats of films and VHS sales were dropping dramatically whereas the DVD sales was increasing initially and followed by a gradual drop over the years. It is shown that the sales of Blu-ray was taken place since the year 2007.
