The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.
The graph demonstrates the amounts of products which transferred to the UK by using different ways from 1974 to 2002.
It can be evidently seen that the main way for transporting products was using roadways. In 1974, about 70 million tones freight was imported to the UK by taking advantage of roadways. In this while, the usage of roads had a upward trend, by taking account of a decrease in 1980 and a fall in 1995, and by 2002, 99 million tones goods had transferred to the UK by using roadways. By contrast, using pipelines was the least handy method. In 1974, lower 5 million tones freight was transported by using pipelines, and with the passage of time, this figure experienced some grows and plateaus, and eventually reached to 21 million tones in 2002. Furthermore, before 1978, the usage of waterways and railways had been approximately equal, whereas after 1978, shipping became more popular compared with using railways.
Overall, in this period of time, roadways and pipelines were the most and least common ways for transporting goods respectively. Besides, most of the time, waterways were more useful than roadways.
