This line graph describes the quantities of goods transported in UK from 1974 to 2002 by four different transport methods.
The amount of goods transported by road, water and pipeline increased from 1974 t0 2002. There are about 70 million tones of goods transported by road in UK in 1974. Then, the number climbed slowly to about 75 million tons in 1978. After a slight decrease to 70 million, it grew gradually to about 83 million tons in 1992. Finally, it peaked to about 98 million tones after a drop in 1995. The quantities of goods transported by water started from about 38 million tons in 1974, then, ascended to about 59 millions between 1986 and 1990. In the end, it reached the highest point at about 65 million tons in 2002 after a fall in 1998. The goods transported by pipeline increased gradually from about 5 million tons in 1974 to about 22 million tons in 1995. Then it maintained the same level from 1995 to 2002. By contrast, the data of the quantities of goods transported by rail shows a different trend. It started at 40 million tones and dropped twice in 1984 and 1995 (25 million tones and 23 million tons respectively). Finally, the figure increased and reached at 41 million tones.
In summary, transporting goods by road was the most popular way in UK from 1974 to 2002. In addition, more and more people transported their goods by pipeline.
