The given bar chart depicts the proportion of commuters in a city in 3 separated years 1950, 1970 and 1990. The data are categorized in 4 different group mean of transport. Overall, the number of people using car noticeably increased over the recorded period, while there was a sudden decrease in the number of people who walked.
Firstly, in 1950, people who traveled by car and bus had by far the lowest portion, by 5% and 20% respectively. However, over the given period these figures received a noticeable rise. To be more specific, the number of car users grew by more than 10 times in 1970, then reached the peak of 45% in the end of the period while that of people using bus showed a dramatic decline in 1990 to 10%.
Meanwhile, in 1950, a staggering 35% of people recognized as walking and the remaining 30% claimed to bike users. Corresponding to the shift in the subsequence 40 years, these two groups recorded a steady decline, people who use bike and walk plummeted to 10% and 12% respectively.
