The charts below show US spending patterns between 1966 and 1996

The given bar chart depicts the proportion of expenditures in US in 2 separated years 1966 and 1996.
In general, there are some shifts in the recorded period, including a surge in cars as well as computers and a sudden decline in food.
Firstly, in 1966, the USA residents tended to spend most of their salary on food with nearly a half (44%), followed by cars with 23%. The expense in furniture, petrol, restaurant, and books made up 10%, 9%, 7% and 6% respectively. The less popular is computer which was only at 1%.
According to the second chart, the USA's expenditure received several development after 30 year period. To be more specific, most of residents started to spend money on car at a staggering number of 45%, while the figures for food plummeted to 14%. Most interesting, however, was a surge in computer at 10%, ten times higher than that in 1966. There was also a notable decrease in books to 10%. The remaining didn't receive any noticeable changes.
