The bar chart below shows the hours per week that teenagers spend doing certain activities in Chester from 2002 to 2007.
The bar chart illustrates the number of hours, British teenagers spent on various activities like going to pubs or discos, watching television, shopping, doing homework, doing sport, watching DVDs, and bowling in a week over five years from 2002 to 2007.
Overall, teenagers spent their highest amount of time watching TV, while they spent minimum time on bowling. There was an increase in the hours spent for going pubs or disco, watching television, and shopping in a week from 2002 to 2007 as opposed to other four activities, for which teenagers spent fewer hours in 2007 as compared to 2002.
Teenagers spent 25 hours a week watching television in the first two years, followed by a substantial increase in the hours spent to a maximum of around 37 hours in 2007. Nearly 10 hours were spent in pubs or disco in the first two years, followed by a marginal increase to about 11 hours for the next three years. After that, there was a sharp increase in the hours spent accounting for almost 17 hours per week. Teenagers spent double time for shopping in 2007 (15 hours/week) as opposed to 2002 (7 hours per week).
Thirteen hours spent on completing homework in 2002 was decreased to 7 hours in 2007 (almost half). The similar trend was seen for doing sport (from 10 hours in 2002 to 2 hours in 2007) and bowling (about 4 hours in 2002 to nearly 1 hour in 2007). Thus, teenagers decreased their time spent on study and sports from 2002 to 2007. There was a steady rise in the number of hours used to watch DVDs till 2004 (almost 17 hours), followed by a gradual decline to 10 hours per week in 2007.
