The bar chart shows the gender wise percentages of data about different typical sports played in New Zealand during 2002.

As can be seen from chart, girls dominated sports are Netball, Swimming, and Athletics. Girl domination in Netball is the biggest margin of about 24%, where highest and lowest participation of girls and boys of around 25% and 1% respectively is recorded. It is followed by second highest domination of girls in Swimming by approximately 9%, though boy’s involvement in this sport is relatively moderate with nearly 13%. And lowest dominant sport in this group is observed in Athletics in which both participants contributed to around 4 percent.

By contrast, dominance of boys is noticed in soccer, cricket, Martial arts, Basketball, Tennis and Other sports. In this group, boys’ preference in soccer is by far the largest level of about 20 percent, with boys’ contribution just under a quarter being the most among them and the second most association in single sport. Similarly, boys’ second largest popularity of nearly 8% are observed in Cricket, Marital arts and Other sports where level of taking part varied between 1% and 17% approximately for both. However, Basketball and Tennis are dominated by little margin (about 1%) with comparatively lower engagement level of around 7.5% for both group.

Overall, it can be seen that total participation in majority of sports is dominated by boy although some sports were dominant by girl particularly physically non-demanding sports in New Zealand in 2002.
