The given bar chart compares the change in the proportion of the UK laborers in five different fields of industry in the two year 1841 and 2011.
Overall, throughout the period shown, there was a downward trend in the number of workers participating in the industry. Moreover, services registers the largest percentage of all the other studied fields.
To begin with, in 1841, manufacturing was the highest industry, accounting for 36%. Services received the second rank with 33% of the total industry. However, this period witnessed a significant fall in three aspects of industry, agriculture, construction and energy, which is 22%, 5% and 3% respectively.
On the other hand, by 2011, the percentage of the workforce in manufacturing was much lower than the one in 1841, which was about 9%. Nevertheless, considerable growth was seen in the services sector, reaching its peak at 81%, before sharply dropping to the starting point at 1% in the agriculture aspect. At that time, the construction and energy industry stayed unchanged at 8% and 1% respectively.
