The bar graph shows the global sales (in billions of dollars) of different
types of digital games between 2000 and 2006
The bar chart demonstrates the amount of money in dollars coming globally from four categories of video games between 2000 and 2006.
Overall, it is clear that sales of games for most of the platforms rose year by year throughout the period. Global sales for handheld games were at least twice as high as those of any other category in each year.
In 2000, the most two popular digital games were handheld and console games as their sales figure were around $11 billion and $6 billion respectively. Over the next few years, money earnings of handheld games soared up by about $3 billion, whereas those for console games fell to about only $4 billion in 2003. As the trend of mobile phones and online games spread all around the world, this led to a considerable increase reaching $3 billion in 2003.
By 2006, each of handheld, online and mobile games peaked in sales at 17, 9 and 7 billion dollars respectively. Console games, on the other hand, was the least among all with sales of just only $3 billion.
