CAM 16 TEST 1:
The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and the amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graphs give information about the proportion of families using electrical appliances and the amount of time they spent on housework per week throughout the period from 1920 to 2019.
Overall, it is apparent from the charts that all electrical appliances showed an upward trend, especially vacuum cleaners and refrigerators, whilst the total hours spent on housework decreased.
Refrigerators witnessed the most significant rise, beginning at almost 0% in 1920, rocketing at 90% to overtake others in 1960. From 1980 to 2019, there was one in every household, Vaccum cleaners started higher, at 30% in 1920 and rose by 20% every 2 decades until 200, it reached the peak of 100%. In contrast, washing machines were the most common of three electrical appliances, with 40% of the ownership, then dropped slightly to 65% in 1980, and ended the period at about 70%.
The number of hours of housework per week dropped in two stages. Firstly, it fell sharply from 50 to 20 hours per week between 1920 and 1960, and then less steeply at a lower pace to 10 hours in 2019.
