Overall, the figure shows the proportion of elders in all UK countries growth after 50years. In both years, Wales has the largest proportion of old people, while Northern Ireland has the least contribution of the elder population.
In 1985, Northern Ireland showed the lowest proportion of old people population at 12% which close to the growth of old people population of Scotland accounting for 14%. The percentage of the elder population in England and the UK both were 15%. Wales contributed the largest percentage of the elder population, which was 16%.
In 2035, the projected old people population of Wales and Scotland sharply increase to 26% and 25% respectively, while that of England and UK represented the same proportion at 23%. Although Northern Ireland experiences a double increase in 2035, it remains the least contribution of the elder population.
