Essay topics:

The chart below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010.

The pie charts compare the percentage of British learners who could communicate in other languages at an university in the UK, from 2000 to 2010.

Overall, it is clear that while the proportion of student who could only speak Spanish, another language and two other languages increased in 2010 as a proportion of total, the percentage of learners who were not able to speak other language and able to speak French only fell.

In 2000, the proportion of students accounted for 30% and this rose to 35% in 2010. Similarly, a increase about 5% was seen in the percentage of students who could speak atleast one other language, from 15% to 20% for the former and from 10% to 15% for the later, in the same years.

In contrast, the percentage of total student who were not able to speak other language decreased dramatically from 20% to 10% in 2000 and 2010, respectively. The proportion of learners who only use French fell to 10% in 2010. The number of students who could speak German, however, remained relatively stable at the same period.
