The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010.
The pie charts illustrate the percentage of British students who spoke different languages except for English in 2000 and 2010.
Overall, it is clear that there was a considerable proportion of students who were able to speak only Spanish, while German accounted for the smallest proportion during the decade.
It can be seen that the rate of students who only could speak English decreased significantly from 20% to 10%. Meanwhile, the percentage of students who could speak French experienced a slight decrease from 15% to 10%. The proportion of German speakers remained unchanged during the period, at 10%.
Turning to the remaining languages, the proportion of students who were able to speak Spanish was the highest figure among the shown languages in both years, with the figure increasing gradually from 30% in 2000 to 35% in 2010. Meanwhile, the percentages of students using one or two other languages were at 15% and 10%.
