The chart below shows the average hours spent per day in leisure and sports activities, by youngest and oldest populations, in the US, in 2015.
The bar chart gives information about how many hours that the populations aged 15 to 19 and 75 and over spent on six different types of activities in the United States in the year 2015.
Overall, watching TV was considered the most popular compared to the others. It is also clear that the older generations preferred watching TV, reading and relaxing and thinking, while the figures for young people in the remaining activities were higher.
Those aged 75 and over spent nearly 4.5 hours watching television a day, which was by far higher than that of young populations (around 2.4 hours). Very similar patterns can be seen for reading and relaxing activities. Specifically, teenagers only read and participated in relaxing and thinking activities for approximately 0.2 hours per day. However, the figures for the elderly were 1 hour for the former and 0.5 hours for the latter.
In comparison, both the young and the old spent less than one hour a day socializing and communicating. In terms of using computers, the younger group spent over twice as much time as the older one, at 1.1 and 0.5 hours respectively. Sport, exercising and recreation were also preferred by the 15 to 19 age group, with an average of 0.5 hours as opposed to only 0.2 hours by the elderly.
