The chart below shows the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisions where relevant.
The line charts illustrates the proportion of households owning three distinct electrical appliances (Washing Machines, Refrigerator and Vacuum Cleaner) and the time consumed (week per hours) doing the housework in a country over a period of almost 100 years.
Overall, while the number of houseworking hours decreased significantly, reducing about 40 hours per week over the period of 10 decades, the proportion of households possessing the electrical appliances increased at a considerable amount in each category of appliances.
Specifically, the percentage of households owning a refrigerator observed a massive rise of about 100% from being close to zero in 1920 to being ubiquitous in 2019. On the other hand, proportion of households possessing washing machine vacillated between the period going from 60% to around 50% and then increased to a former percent in order to further gain an increasing momentum. The adoption of vacuum cleaners increased steadily starting at 30% in the beginning and ending up to 100% possession in the households till 2019.
With the increase in the owners of electrical appliances in households, the amount of house work per week decreased gradually reducing it to 10 hours per week. Interestingly, at the end of the time span, most of the households owned electrical appliances contrasting to very few owners in the start (almost between zero to forty percent). In 1940, all the appliances compared in the chart observed an equal proportion of around 50% while in 1960, refrigerator overtook the ratio by 20% and rose to 90% compared to the remaining appliances which remained at 70%
