The chart below shows the changes that took place in three different areas of crime in Newport City Centre groom 2003-2012.

The line graph depicts how the rate of burglary, car theft and robbery changed between 2003 and 2012 in Newport City Centre.

Overall, the rates of burglary reduced from the beginning till the end of the period. However, the number of car thefts did not drop as much as burglary. The frequency of robbery happening during this period remained greatly consistent and it was also the lowest number of crime as compared to the other two.

The occurrence of burglary decreased the most over the twelve years. In 2003, there were around 3400 cases of burglary. This figure rose slightly by about 200 in the following year, and then it experienced a dramatic drop to 1100 incidents in 2008. From 2009 to 2011, the number of burglary went up slightly but it still remained low at 1400 cases in the end of the period.

The amount of car theft and robbery differs greatly. However, it is interesting to note that they followed a similar trend because both crimes did not reduce much in 2012. There were 3400 cases of burglary in 2003 and this is the same twelve years later. Similarly, there was approximately 600 cases of robbery in 2003 and this figure remained almost the same in 2012.
