The line chart demonstrates the lifts occurring in three different places of crime in Newport city center between 2003 and 2012.
Looking at the chart, it is clear that while there was a plateau in car theft and robbery, a significant drop was witnessed in burglary portion at the same period. It is apparent that throughout the given period, the percentage of burglary decreased dramatically out of three types examined. In 2003, there was nearly 3500 of burglaries. This figure rose drastically to 3750 cases in 2004, which hit a low of over 1000 in 2008, before fluctuating to about 1500 in the next 3 years.
At the beginning of the period, car theft witnessed approximately 3000 cases occurring in the inner city from 2003 to 2005. This figure then dropped quickly to 2000 in 2006, followed by a recovery back at the initial number in 2012. A similar trend was seen in robbery. There was over 500 cases thieving from the person in 2003, this figure then fluctuated slightly in the next 8 years, before reaching the initial number at the end of the period, making robbery be the least crime happening in the city.
