The chart below illustrates the changes in the number of U.S. households categorized by their annual income levels in 2007, 2011, and 2015.
Specifically, for households with incomes under $50,000, there were initially around 25 million households with annual incomes under $25,000. This number increased to nearly 30 million in 2011 and then decreased slightly to about 27 million in the final year. Similarly, households earning between $25,000 and $49,999 annually followed a similar trend, starting at around 26 million, reaching a peak of 30 million, and ending at about 29 million.
It is important to note that households in the $50,000 to $74,999 income range showed no change in numbers, remaining at just over 20 million throughout the entire period.
In terms of households with annual incomes above $75,000, there were nearly 15 million households earning $75,000-$99,999 in 2007. This number then increased to exactly 15 million by the end of the time frame, with a negligible decline in 2011. The figures for households with the highest income range ($100,000 and above) exhibited a more significant increase, rising from less than 30 million to about 33 million in 2011, dominating the rankings in 2015.
Overall, over the eight years, households with incomes under $50,000 initially increased and then slightly decreased.
