The graph clearly shows the significant changes in the trend of further education. However, all the time, among both the genders people preferred part-time studies.
Overall, the number of men pursuing higher education remain almost change whereas that of women change greatly. Over time, men started preferring full-time education and therefore the reduction in the part-time male students was approximately compensated by the full-time male students.
A steady growth in the number of female students can be observed both in part-time and full-time students indicating that more women have come into higher education. The number of women in part-time education is increased very sharply, reaching almost 11 lakhs from 7 lakhs during the peroid of 1970 to 1991.
However, the number of full-time students is rising for both genders.
