The percentage of households renting accommodations reached its highest level in 1918 throughout a 93-year-period, in about 77 percent. After that, it decreased to 68 percent in 1939 and maintained its level in 1953. it then continued to decrease from 1961 to 2001, to 59 percent, 50 percent, 40 percent, 33 percent, 32 percent, respectively. In 2011, there was a slight increase to 38 percent.

In 1918, the amount of households that owned accommodations is 22 percent. It was the lowest during 1918-2011. 21 years later, in 1939, it started to rise to 32 percent, and maintained its level in 1953. After that, it continued its increase from 1961 until 2001, to 41 percent, 50 percent, 60 percent, 68 percent, and 69 percent, respectively. It then decreased slightly to 64 percent in 2011.

Overall, in 93 years, the trends of families owning accommodation and renting accommodation are the opposite. The amount of households in owned accommodation tended to increase, where the proportion of households in rented accommodation tended to decrease.
