The bar chart illustrates the amount of households based on two different criteria(owned, rented) in England and Wales. The chart is constructed based on the statistical data between 1918 and 2011, which shows a significant change in household practices over the years.
Households in owned accommodation saw a rising trend for the whole timeline. It started at, just about 23% in 1918, and nearly tripled in 2011 to about 64%. Although the change is substantial, the rate of change was not always high. For instance, between the year 1939 and 1953, the percentage remained constant, which is around 32%, whereas, on the contrary, there was a decrease in the number between 2001 and 2011 which was by a small amount of near 5%.
Households in rented accommodation started from the highest value of the chart which is nearly 75%. But some recurrent decrease in value over the years resulted to a staggering low of 35% in 2011. Similar to the owned accommodation, household in rented accommodation carried same percentage in 1939 and 1953. Whereas, a marginal rise in rented accommodation can be seen between years 2001 and 2011.
