The bar chart provide information about percentage of purchased and leased accommodation in both England and Wales during 1918 to 2011. Overall, it can be seen that the owned and rented accommodations showed an opposite trend. At the beginning of the period, the percentage of leased accommodations outraced the purchased housings, but it did not stay until the end of the period since 1971.
In 1918, the percentage of families in rented accommodation stood at approximately 78% which was about four times of families in leased accommodation's percentage. The next year, in 1939, the leased housings decreased to about 68% where the owned accommodations increased to about 32%. In 1953, both purchased and leased housings had the same percentage with the previous year. However, owned accommodation continued to increase to around 40% where leased accommodation continued its decrease to near 60%, before both stood at the same percentages in 50% in 1971.
After 1971, changes happened where the percentages of families in purchased accommodation started to increase to around 69%, from 1981 to 2001, before experienced a slight decrease in 2011 to around 63%. In contrary, from the period of 1981 to 2001, households in rented housings began to decrease to about 31%, before rose to around 35% in 2011.
