The bar chart below depict the proportion of English and Welsh families in possessed and leased accommodations during 1918 to 2011. Overall, it is noticeable that owned and rented housings show an opposite trend.

Looking at the chart at more detail, in 1918 leased accommodations stood at approximately 78%, while possessed housings was about 23%. In 1939, percentage of rented housings started to decrease to around 68%, while proportion of owned accommodations began to increase to approximately 32%. After that, in 1953, both possessed and leased housings remained constant, before both continued to show opposite trend in 1961, where owned housings was approximately 41% and rented housings was about 59%. Furthermore, in 1971 both owned and rented stood at the same number, at 50%.

After that, a reversal happens to possessed and leased housings, where from 1981 to 2001 the percentage of owned accommodations exceeded leased housings' percentage. In 1981, bought housings was 60%, where leased housings was only 40%. The trend continued until 2001, where owned housings stood at approximately 69% and leased accommodations stood at about 31%. After that, in 2011, owned accommodation dropped slightly to about 65% while leased accommodation rose slightly to around 38%.
