The table gives data regarding the outcomes of a survey asking people's destination countries by main regions conducted in the UK between the years 1994 and 1998, in which 100,000 residents participated.
Overall, during the period of five years, the most visited region by UK residents was western Europe which was their most favorite area to travel. Similarly, the number of people visited the countries located in the area of Western Europe increased considerably compared to other destinations.
While 19,371 residents visited Western Europe in 1994, only 1,782 and 919 took a trip to other areas and North America, respectively. These figures increased slightly in the following year for each destination, followed by a relatively substantial increase for the rested of the period, reaching 24,519, 2,486, and 1,823 people visiting western European countries, other areas, and North America, respectively.
