The line charts illustrate the quantity of households that were equipped with electrical appliances and how much time people spent doing housework in a week from 1920 to 2019.
Generally, the percentage of refrigerator and vacuum cleaner increased rapidly in the first few years while the number of hours people had for doing housework decreased through years. Units were measured in hours in the second line graph.
In terms of refrigerator, there was an increase of 55% in households with electrical appliances in the first 20 years from 1920 at 0% to 1940 with 55%. After that, this figure grew by 35% to 90% in 1960. From 1980 to 2019, refrigerator area took the highest position steadily at 100%. Between 1920 and 1940, washing machine and vacuum cleaner increased by 20%, from 40% to 60% and from 30% to 50% respectively. In the period of 60 years from 1940 to 2000, the quantity of washing machine fluctuated between 60% and 70% and grew by 5% the last 19 years. Meanwhile, the vacuum cleaner area increased by 20% every 20 years from 1920, taking up 90% in 1980. In 2000, the percentage of vacuum cleaner touched 100%.
On the other hand, people spent less time doing housework through years. The data declined by 30 hours from 50 hours to 20 hours a week between 1920 and 1960. 20 years later, the statistic dropped by 5 hours then it remained stable at 15 hours during the period between 1980 and 2000. In the last 19 years, the number of hours had a small drop, at 11 hours on a weekly basis.
